Does Hoodia Work? My Experience with Hoodia.
Posted on August 5, 2008Filed Under Diet, Weight Loss |
After the birth of my second child, I became increasingly depressed over my weight gain and overall appearance, but the problem went deeper than that. The depression was only a symptom, not a cause. The real culprit with my life-long struggle with weight, was and is still addiction–a destruction cycle of emotional eating. Since I’ve lost my weight, I’m not depressed anymore about my appearance and I’ve made positive changes in my life to reduce the urge to eat (see my posts on emotional eating.) Although it’s currently in check, like any addiction, my emotional eating will take a life-time to deal with.
Once I comitted myself 100% (see my post on commitment) to losing weight, I began research on how to lose weight and the different types of diet pills available. I was particularly interested in Hoodia, since it was natural. After consecutive pregnancies and breastfeeding, my appetite was insatiable (see my before and after photos). I knew I needed a little help just to get started. Despite my husband’s protests, I purchased Iovate Hoodia Sure 60Sgels to curb my appetite from www.houseofnutrition.com for $36.00.
I found their prices reasonable, their selection of products impressive, and they have good customer service. I promised him that I would take no more than one bottle. The reason I choose that particular Hoodia was due to my research. I read on many forums and blogs that I needed to take a form of Hoodia that was at least 450mg to actually work. I know they are cheaper ones available, but I didn’t want to chance it.
I took 2 pills a day, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon around 3-4pm when I would get hungry. I didn’t have any problems with the pills, like nervousness or jitterness. Hoodia, in my case, helped. After three and a half weeks, I stopped taking the pills because my stomach shrank, and I wasn’t hungry between meals and snacks, which greatly helped me stick to my new eating habits. Honestly, it was just the help I needed to motivate me to continue. One bottle was enough for me. If you’re thinking of trying Hoodia, please ask your medical doctor BEFORE taking these pills, or any other type of diet supplement. If you decide to try them, let me know how they worked out for you.
Best Wishes!
Vas

Vas,
I was just curious if you take any thyroid or antidepressant meds. I just bought my first bottle of Hoodia and noticed no results my first day on the product. I take both the above meds each day and wondered if other people have had success with Hoodia that are taking other meds.

Dear Melissa,
I didn’t take anything else other than a multi-vitamin when I was taking Hoodia. Check the label of the bottle. The Hoodia portion should be at least 450 mg to work. Also, please check with your doctor if you should be taking it along with your other meds.
Finally, please read my recent post about a book that every female should read about her health.
Wishing you health & happiness,
Vas
Vas,
Thanks for responding. I take 1500mg before breakfast and lunch but I don’t notice anything. Do you think the product you ordered would work? I don’t have a doctor but since Hoodia is natural with no side affects my guess is a doctor wouldn’t have a problem with it. I chose Desert Burn at first. I thought maybe you might have heard some other women with this same issue.

Dear Melissa,
Wow, 1500 mg and it still doesn’t work! Yes, I had two other people tell me that Desert Burn didn’t work. I think Desert Burn contains 450 mg of Hoodia, right?
Please be careful. Although Hoodia is natural, it may not be healthy if it’s mixed with other meds. I’d hate for you to become ill.
Try the one I suggested in my post. It worked for me and I had a pretty ferocious appetite. If you do order it,let me know how it works out for you.
Best Wishes,
Vas
Hi Vas,
No, Desert Burn actually contains 750mg per capsule! I don’t think I’ll throw my money away on anything more, unless it has a money back guarantee!
Thank you for responding! I am so happy you were successful! There are so many of us who haven’t been and it gives us hope to see you!
God Bless.

Hi Melissa,
I know how hard it is to control one’s appetite. My appetite never decreased after 2 pregnancies and breast-feeding. I was constantly hungry, thinking of food. Although I haven’t gained any weight back, food has always been (and still is) a problem of mine. I’m very aware of why and what I eat now, which wasn’t always the case. What really helped me was realizing that I was eating to fill a void in my life.
You too can have success with good thoughts, committment and action. I don’t know if this pertains to your situation, but have you read my posts on emotional eating?
Warmly,
Vas
Vas,
I haven’t read them yet. I suppose I am a bit cynical at this point. I tried last year so hard. I spent 4-5 weeks dedicated to change. I was at the gym 6 days a week and watched my diet meticuously. I did not loose a pound or an inch. That did it for me for a while. I guess I fell for the Hoodia Ads. I thought it would be different this time. I thought Hoodia would allow me ultimate control and how could I not loose weight if I wasn’t eating, right? I have read some new books and I will try some juicing to see if that seems to help. Thank you so much for your encouragement and I will read your posts on emotional eating.
